Obviously there are thousands of beautiful poems in existence written by famous poets, but nothing comes close to a treasured piece of prose which relates to two people, with shared meaning. Writing a poem for parent's funeral can be near impossible, you've just lost one or both of the most loving people in the world and writing a funeral poem is probably going to be impossible.
When a poet feels close to someone, a natural response is to write a poem. If you are not normally the type of person who gives out poems, this is something that will truly be unexpected. A lot of people choose to read passages from the Bible rather than a poem because they think that this is more appropriate.
What is your poem going to be about, it should focus on one theme or topic. Many sites not only have classic love poems archived, but also make efforts to have a collection of contemporary love poems by inviting amateur poets to contribute. Just like when our loved ones are at home with us and spend time in our living room.
So take it for what it is worth, and enjoy it. Put it on his or hers pillow with a rose.
